What is Act 126?

Act 126 requires professional development for all school entities in four specific areas: the recognition and reporting of child abuse, the Pennsylvania Educator Misconduct Act and the maintenance of professional relationships with students. Information about the Act and its provisions as well as a list of PDE approved Act 126 providers may be found HERE.

The intent of the training requirement is to protect the children of Pennsylvania by ensuring that all those working with them understand how to recognize and report suspected child abuse.

This Act only affects those working in Pennsylvania, however, several other states have similar training requirements and all school-based employees are required to report suspected child abuse by the federal CAPTA law, which was reauthorized in 2010.
